Pensole Kicks Off Sneaker Championship – Powered by Foot Locker

Pensole Footwear Design Academy announced the kickoff and schedule for the 2016 World Sneaker Championship (WSC) – Powered by Foot Locker, according to Pensole founder D’Wayne Edwards.

This year’s competition, which was created to discover and develop aspiring sneaker designers from around the globe, will take place entirely online, kicking off on February 5 and culminating in a weeklong World Sneaker Championship Experience (WSCX) live exhibition for the sneaker community in New York City, where the winning design will be announced and ultimately sold at select Foot Locker stores globally.

“The World Sneaker Championship is one of Pensole’s most popular competitions,” Edwards said. “This year we’re expanding it both in length and in reach, with multiple points of interactivity between designers and industry influencers.”

The 2016 WSC will be structured in tournament format, with registration and submissions kicking off on February 5 and running through March 6. On March 13 the 64 best sneaker designs will be announced on the World Sneaker Championship website. After that, online voting through weekly single-elimination rounds (from 64 to 32 and so on) will continue until the two top designs are selected on April 17, thus commencing a showdown between the final two. On May 9, 3-D rendering of the final two designs are revealed.

Development of the winning design will take place May – November, and the winning design announced at WSCX in New York at a location to be announced. The winning designer, who will be designated the 2016 World Sneaker Champion, will also receive $20,016, and his or her sneaker design will be produced for sale at select Foot Locker stores globally.
