Sport Footwear Sales Analysis For May

May is one of the smallest months of the year.  Typically it is a transitional month, clearing out spring and getting assortments ready for back to school.  All in all, May is one of the least important months of the year.

That said it is one of the most important months for sandals, which disappointed on the cold wet weather.  Sandals were about 10% of May’s total sales and  declined in the mid singles for the month

Dollar sales of sport Footwear for May improved in the high singles and units in the low singles resulting in a mid-single digit increase in average selling price to $58.13.

Sales on the internet were about 10% of total sales in the retailers we measure.  Ecommerce generated a 20+% increase.  Athletic Specialty/Full Line grew in the mid singles.

Men’s sport footwear grew in the mid singles, women’s in the low singles and kids in the low teens. Men’s basketball decelerated form previous trend. Women’s was weak in Training and sandals. Kids had a strong month in sandals and Training. Basketball had good growth in May up more than 20%. Running had a solid month gaining in the high singles.  Casual Athletic continues to make a comeback with a mid singles digit increase in May.

Nike Jordan and the core running brands all had strong months.  Skechers posted a 40% increase.  Nike and Jordan again dominated the top seller list.
