FDRA helps companies understand product safety testing requirements and updates to regulations.  With new regulations from American states to countries around the world, companies should not go it alone on product safety issues.  Below is FDRA’s total product saftey program.  Please contact us if you need our services and want to join FDRA.

FDRA Product Safety Enhancement Committee

FDRA’s Product Safety Enhancement Committee are top industry leaders that help craft FDRA product safety strategies and policies to ensure safe products and commonsense regulations.  This subcommittee reports directly to the Board of Directors.

This Committee is chaired by Josue Solano of BBC International.

The following FDRA members are also on the subcommittee:
Peter Hohensee, Rack Room Shoes
Michael Morant, Wolverine Worldwide
Matt Priest, FDRA
TUV SUD’s Ben DeVito has also been selected to provide technical advice to the subcommittee as needed.

FDRA Product Safety Working Group

FDRA has created a working group for all its members to participate, organizing key product safety and quality control managers in a collaborative effort.  This extremely active group boasts more than 80 of the industry’s leading experts from over 50 companies.  The working group allows the industry to discuss best product safety practices with each other on conference calls and provides a platform for the industry to unite and address safety regulations.  These calls also include FDRA’s product safety legal experts to help advice and guide the industry.

The working group was instrumental in the development to FDRA’s Global Product Safety Guidebooks on physical and chemical testing.  It will continue to be active in developing key and timely updates to the Guide.

Special Training Programs

Each year FDRA hosts several Product Safety and Environment (PSE) workshops around the globe where experts and government officials educate the industry on trends and new regulations.  The workshop includes information on how to manage safe footwear production as well as ensure supply chains are environmentally friendly.  FDRA members receive a large discount on registration.

In 2014, FDRA has teamed up with TUV SUD as its strategic partner on product safety issues and testing.  As a result, all footwear factories in China and Vietnam can send representatives for FREE to our 2014 PSE workshops (see schedule above).

FDRA also works with BLC leather Technology Centre to host ‘Understanding Leather’ workshops around the U.S.  These workshops educate footwear executives and professionals on product safety, quality, and sourcing knowledge related to leather footwear.

Guide to Managing Chemicals in Footwear

FDRA has partnered with TUV SUD to develop the only footwear specific Global Footwear Product Safety Guide.  Product safety managers at footwear companies are often confused about chemical regulations because they have to navigate countless RSLs not focused on footwear.  This Guide removes the clutter and makes clear exactly what footwear companies need to know.

This guide is available here for FDRA members.

Product Safety Intelligence (Alerts, Documents, Bulletins)

FDRA has extensive ties to government officials and works to keep the industry updated on product safety regulation changes and trends at both the federal and state level. As part of product safety intelligence, FDRA:

• sends out instant email updates and alerts on proposed and new regulations and their targets
• provides in-depth documents and memos explaining and analyzing product safety regulations
• created an intelligence center which hosts a product safety document archive so professionals can pull past memos and documents
• produce a quarterly Product Safety Bulletin for FDRA members on product safety issues impacting the footwear industry.

Access to the Leading Industry Experts

FDRA partners with a number of product safety legal experts and testing labs.  This provides FDRA members with the best consultations and advice available to the footwear industry.
