Matt Priest
President & CEO
Matt Priest is President & CEO of the Footwear Distributors and Retailers of America (FDRA) and oversees the operations of the Fashion Footwear Association of New York (FFANY). With more than 15 years of leadership at the helm of the industry’s most influential footwear trade organizations, Matt represents companies responsible for 98% of all footwear sold in the U.S. His work focuses on advancing the industry’s growth, competitiveness, and global influence while creating platforms for collaboration through education, trade publications, and major industry events.
A recognized trade policy expert and negotiator, Matt is a leading voice in Washington advocating for modernized trade policies and the elimination of outdated tariffs that restrict innovation and competitiveness in the footwear industry. He co-hosts the industry podcast Shoe-In Show, where he engages with leading executives and experts on the trends, challenges, and future of the global footwear business.
Before joining FDRA in 2009, Matt served at the U.S. Department of Commerce as Senior Advisor to Secretary Carlos Gutierrez and as Deputy Assistant Secretary for Textiles and Apparel, where he helped shape strategies to strengthen the domestic and international competitiveness of the U.S. footwear, textile, and apparel industries. He also chaired the Committee for the Implementation of Textile Agreements (CITA), overseeing policies addressing market disruptions in the textile and apparel marketplace. Earlier in his career, he served as Legislative Director to Sue Myrick, advising on trade, textiles, and economic development.
Matt serves on the boards of the Fashion Footwear Charitable Foundation and Soles4Souls, and is Chairman of the Board of Let’s Do Something. He has served as an Executive in Residence at the College of Textiles, often guest lectures at the Georgetown University McDonough School of Business, and is an honorary member of the Footwear Youth Leadership Group of the Taiwan Footwear Manufacturers Association.
