Los Angeles based ACI International, a leading manufacturer and distributer of footwear, today announced the launch of their newest brand, Buyamba; a fashion forward line of women’s sandals, flats and boots that are adorned with hand crafted embellishments unique to Africa. Buyamba product is currently sold exclusively on the brand’s website at shopbuyamba.com and will arrive in select specialty stores this fall. The socially conscious Buyamba brand was developed by ACI in an effort to help the women and children of Uganda.
“Our mission is to create a socially minded and responsible brand by providing employment and a sense of purpose for the displaced women of Uganda, and through the support of education for their children,” explained ACI’s President, Craig Hardy. To date, more than 200 women have been trained and employed to create the colorful hand-rolled beads, made from old magazines and discarded paper. Now earning a fair wage, these women, many widowed and raising children alone, are able to support their families and help their communities.
“This is more than a feel good product” added Hardy, “From this brand’s inception, we were striving to make a sustainable difference, to establish a cycle of giving that is life changing for the women and children of Uganda – a country devastated by HIV/AIDS and the after-effects of war.”
