10 Oct G.H. Bass Store Faces Possible Credit Card Hack
On Sept. 12, 2014, G.H. Bass & Co. discovered that an unauthorized person had connected a small data capture device to one of the cash registers in its store on International Drive in Orlando, FL. G.H. Bass & Co. immediately launched an investigation and engaged a leading forensic investigation firm.
As a result of the investigation, Bass has determined that the device, which was placed on only one register in the International Drive store, was designed to record information sent to the register from the payment card reader connected to the keyboard. The device recorded information from payment cards used at that register between approximately August 13, 2014 and September 12, 2014. This information included the cardholder’s name, card number, expiration date, verification code, and e-mail address (if it was provided).
G.H. Bass & Co. does not have sufficient information to mail notification letters to the potentially affected cardholders. Accordingly, if a Bass customer used his or her card in the G.H. Bass store located on International Drive, Orlando, Florida between August 13, 2014 and September 12, 2014 and discovers a fraudulent charge on the card, the customer should immediately contact the bank that issued the card. Major credit card companies typically guarantee that cardholders will not be responsible for fraudulent charges. A Bass customer of that store during the indicated time period should review his or her account statements for any unauthorized activity.
