17 Aug Under Armour CEO Resigns From Trump Business Council
Under Armour Founder and CEO Kevin Plank joined the chief executives of Intel Corp and Merck & Co Inc. and resigned from Donald Trump’s American Manufacturing Council on Monday, following Trump’s weak response to the weekend violence at a rally of white supremacists in Charlottesville, VA.
After what many saw as a tepid response the the weekend violence, Trump on Monday denounced neo-Nazis and the Ku Klux Klan as criminals and thugs, after media and political critics assailed him for not singling out white supremacists in those remarks.
“We remain resolute in our potential and ability to improve American manufacturing,” said Plank in a Twitter posting. “However, Under Armour engages in innovation and sports, not politics.”
Plank was criticized last winter by some of Under Armour’s biggest sports stars over his support of Trump.
