Amazon Acquires Shoefitr

Amazon.com Inc. has acquired Shoefitr, which has conducted 3D scans on hundreds of thousands of shoes to help shoppers pick the size that will best fit their feet, according to multiple media reports.

The technology could be added to Amazon’s main website, or could also be used as part of Zappos, also owned by Amazon, reports TechCrunch. According to TechCrunch, Amazon has plans to move Shoefitr into its headquarters located in Seattle, WA. Shoefitr is currently based in Pittsburgh. It was started in 2010 by a group of former college athletes and has scanned footwear from more than 1,000 brands, including most global athletic and outdoor ones.
