Amazon Reveals Holiday Shopping Figures

Amazon’s 22nd holiday broke new records for the online retailer as it gained a slew of new consumers in Canada and worldwide, who turned to their mobile devices to shop. According to Amazon, More than 72 percent of Amazon customers worldwide shopped using a mobile device this holiday.

The company also said this holiday season it shipped more than one billion items worldwide with Prime, while shopping on the free Amazon app grew 56 percent worldwide this holiday season.

December 19 was the peak worldwide shipping day this holiday season.

Amazon also broke down the buying habits of its Canadian consumers, showing that 2016 best sellers in sports, fitness and outdoor products included:

  • Adidas Terrex Fast R Mens Hiking Shoes
  • Swiss Gear Rainproof Backpack
  • Fitbit Charge 2 Heart Rate Plus Fitness Wristband
  • LifeStraw Personal Water Filter
  • Intex Challenger K1 Kayak

Recently, Amazon opened its first robotics fulfillment center in Canada which hired more than 700 new full-time positions. To meet increased customer demand, 2,000 seasonal associate roles were also created to help fulfill Amazon.ca orders this holiday season.
