01 Jul Engaging Congress in New Ways: Congressional Fantasy Softball Winners Awarded Prizes by FDRA
The women of Congress weren’t the only ones celebrating after this year’s sixth annual Congressional Women’s Softball Game.
Roll Call has announced the Fantasy Softball Challenge winners, and the top three entries received some coveted prizes.
As part of the competition, participants chose nine players from either team and earned points based on each player’s performance (10 points for a single, 20 for a double, etc.).
Amy Littleton, operations director for the Association of State Democratic Chairs at the Democratic National Committee, took first place and was awarded a Capitol Lounge gift certificate and two tickets to a Nationals’ game.
“No way!!!! This is crazy, I never win things,” Littleton wrote in an email to CQ Roll Call when she learned of her victory.
Littleton’s team was made up entirely of lawmakers. She had one of the game’s MVPs, Sen. Kirsten Gillibrand, D-N.Y., on her fantasy team, along with Reps. Joyce Beatty, D-Ohio; Cheri Bustos, D-Ill.; Katherine M. Clark, D-Mass.; Donna Edwards, D-Md.; Tulsi Gabbard, D-Hawaii; Heidi Heitkamp, D-N.D.; Kyrsten Sinema, D-Ariz.; and Debbie Wasserman Schultz, D-Fla.
Second place went to Kate Houghton of the DNC. Houghton, a longtime staffer for Wasserman Schultz, has helped organize the game and she was also spotted at a number of both teams’ practices.
Houghton is a cancer survivor herself, and she was surprised and amused that she won second place in the fantasy competition. “I only did it to show someone else how to do it,” she wrote in an email.
Houghton received a Zappos gift certificate courtesy of the Footwear Distributors and Retailers of America and a bat used in the 53rd Annual Roll Call Congressional Baseball Game.
The FDRA also provided the third place prize, a pair of Dearfoams slippers, which went to Mike Myers of Indiana.
