17 Apr FDRA’s Product Safety Workshop A Success
The Footwear Distributors and Retailers of America (FDRA) held their Product Safety and Environment Workshop on April 9, 2013 in Washington, DC. The workshop drew over 30 footwear executives, from Wolverine Worldwide to Brown Shoe Company and others, as well as several of the industry’s leading product safety service providers, including EC Vision, TV SUD, and Thermo Fisher.
Participants were briefed by experts on new product safety regulations, as well as best practices to ensure safe and sustainable footwear production and materials. One of the workshop’s highlights was the update by Consumer Product Safety Commissioner Nancy Nord (picture below). She is the longest serving Commissioner on the CPSC and talked about CPSIA implementation and other Federal product safety issues impacting the footwear industry today.
“The workshop held this year was especially robust thanks to our subject matter experts, and especially Commissioner Nord who stayed and took questions on footwear product safety from all the participants,” said FDRA President Matt Priest. “There is no doubt that the many footwear executives who attended came away with a better idea of what product safety regulations and challenges we are facing and how we as an industry can better address them.”
