March 02–HIGH POINT — Wesleyan Christian Academy and Macedonia Family Resource Center have partnered with each other and with Samaritan’s Feet for the second year for the Shoes of Hope event.
Students and parents from Fairview Elementary were given brand new pairs of shoes. Marsha Flinchum, communications coordinator at Wesleyan, said this year’s event was smaller than last year’s by design, serving about 400 people.
“We were learning last year, and we had about 1,500 people get shoes,” Flinchum said. “This year, we really wanted to reach out to Macedonia, which serves Fairview, with this and other projects. It’s proven to be a wonderful ministry for us and the community.”
Student and parent volunteers from Wesleyan were at Macedonia on Saturday to help with the distribution. They sized children and adults for new shoes, washed their feet in the name of Jesus, and gave them their new pairs of shoes.
“It’s a really good way to help people out and share the Gospel,” said Sophia Brown, a ninth-grader at Wesleyan. “There are so many people in our community that don’t have as much as we do, and this a good way to help them out.”
Jocelyn Anderson of High Point brought her dad to his appointment for new shoes and got much more.
“I’m so glad I came,” she said. “A lady came and stopped me out the blue and prayed for me. I like that, and we really appreciate what they’re doing.”
Christy Lowe, program director at Macedonia, said she was very excited to be a part of Shoes of Hope.
“It is the most humbling thing I’ve ever been a part of,” she said.
Samaritan’s Feet has a mission to give 10 million shoes to 10 million children in 10 years. So far, the nonprofit has given about 4 million shoes to kids in need.
