hoke Hoka One One, a division of Deckers Outdoor Corporation, announced that Mark Mastalir has joined its management team as their new vice president of marketing.
With his background of more than 20 years of global marketing experience working for world-class brands in the sports, entertainment, and consumer goods industries, Mastalir will develop and implement dynamic and creative marketing strategies that support the success of the Hoka One One brand.
Mastalir’s career includes over ten years of experience in the running industry, having managed various marketing programs for both Reebok and Nike. During his tenure with Nike, Mastalir was the head of sports marketing for the Canadian and Latin American markets.
“Having worked with Mark at Reebok earlier in his career, I know that he brings intelligence, commitment and enthusiasm to his role. And now he also brings a wealth of experience and marketing ability to this newly created position,” said Jim Van Dine, brand president of Hoka One One. “His passion for running, combined with his management and leadership experience will be a great asset to the Hoka One One brand and all parts of the business as we continue to grow.”
With a BA and MA from Stanford University, Mastalir was an All-American in Track & Field at Stanford in the 1500 meters in 1991 and also competed in the 1992 OIympic Trials in the 1500 meters. Currently he’s completing the Harvard Business School General Management Program.
“I’ve never seen a running footwear brand that has created so much buzz among consumers and running specialty retailers. I’m thrilled to join the team at Hoka One One,” said Mastalir. “I started my career in specialty running retail under the leadership of Jim Van Dine, and I couldn’t be more excited to be back working in the industry,” said Mastalir.
Hoka One One was founded in 2009 by Jean-Luc Diard and Nicolas Mermoud and was created to design shoes that offer improved performance primarily for ultrarunners. Deckers Outdoor Corp. acquired the brand in late 2012.
