15 Jul New Balance Signs Rising Junior American Tennis Star
New Balance announced the signing of Wimbledon Juniors Champion Reilly Opelka as the latest addition to New Balance’s growing team of elite tennis players. New Balance will be Opelka’s official apparel and footwear provider for competition, training and lifestyle.
At 17 years old, Opelka is a promising young American tennis talent that has recently raised his profile with strong performances in several marquee events and Junior Grand Slam tournaments. Last December, Opelka captured the title at the Eddie Herr International Championships and achieved his best-ever performance in a Junior Grand Slam with an appearance in the French Open quarterfinals. On Sunday, Opelka won the boys title at Wimbledon.
Opelka was raised in Palm Coast, FL. For the last 6 years, he has been part of the USTA Player Development program in Boca Raton. He is coached by Diego Moyano.
Commenting on the signing, Opelka said, “I am super thrilled to join the New Balance team. I’ve known the key people in the tennis division for almost 10 years and they’re like family to me — great people and great products. We’re going to have a lot of fun together.”
Evan Zeder, sports marketing manager, New Balance Tennis said, “We are extremely excited to welcome Reilly Opelka into the New Balance family. We’ve had the pleasure to watch Reilly develop both personally and as a tennis player from the early junior years. Reilly is a leader both on and off the court which is a great fit for the New Balance brand.”
Opelka joins fellow Team New Balance tennis athletes Milos Raonic, Heather Watson and Nicole Gibbs as the brand drives to build a formidable presence in the tennis market worldwide.
