18 Dec Nike Moving Women’s Half Marathon from San Francisco
Nike reportedly is moving the popular Nike Women’s Half Marathon in San Francisco to another city. Nike hasn’t said where it plans to hold the race in 2016.
The city was informed “about a month ago they are not coming because they are pursuing alternative locations,” Rec & Parks spokesperson Sarah Madland told the San Francisco Chronicle.
The 12th consecutive running of the Nike Women’s Half Marathon in San Francisco was held in October and drew more than 25,000 runners with the start line in Union Square. The latest course included a finish along the Marina Green after hill-climbs through Golden Gate Park.
Elite athletes that participated in the race include 1984 Olympic women’s marathon champion Joanie Benoit Samuelson, paratriathlete Sarah Reinertsen, Olympian and San Francisco native Shannon Rowbury, and American distance runners Jordan Hasay and Alexis Pappas.
