12 Mar Rack Room Shoes’ Peter Barr honored with 2014 Corporate Counsel Award
The Charlotte Business Journal selected Rack Room Shoes’ General Counsel Peter Barr as a winner of the 2014 Corporate Counsel Awards, a program that honors the top in-house lawyers in the region. With more than 18 years of retail counsel experience, Barr was recognized for “Outstanding General Counsel with an Attorney Size of 2 -10.”
Serving as General Counsel for Rack Room Shoes since 2001, Barr currently manages the retailer’s nine-employee legal department, which includes four attorneys. He oversees a wide range of legal areas including intellectual property, litigation management, employment law, consumer protection, and commercial real estate, among others.
At Rack Room Shoes, Barr has helped implement a lease database system that allows the retailer to more effectively negotiate store locations. He also oversees the retailer’s legal-intern program.
Prior to his career with Rack Room Shoes, Barr helped build Payless Shoe Source’s full service law department. His 28-year legal career also includes experience in two medium-sized commercial law firms and six years managing his own firm.
