Shoe Carnival’s Former CEO Mark Lemond Has Passed Away

Former CEO and President of Shoe Carnival Mark Lemond has died. Lemond worked at the company for 25 years, before he retired in 2012.

Lemond was born January 22, 1955 in Jasper, IN. He was a graduate of Mater Dei High School and completed his Bachelor of Science Degree from the University of Evansville. After attaining his CPA he was a partner in the firm Kruse, Dicus and Associates for 10 years. He began his career with Shoe Carnival, Inc. as Chief Financial Officer and retired after 25 years as the company’s President and Chief Executive Officer.

In 2001, Lemond was awarded the Ernst and Young Entrepreneur of the Year in Retail. In 2006 he was recognized as Business Person of the Year by the Evansville Chamber of Commerce. In 2008 Lemond was awarded Business Leader of the Year by the University of Evansville. With UE being close to his heart, Lemond served on the Board of Trustees. Lemond also served on many local boards most notably St. Mary’s and Old National and was known for his generosity to many local and national causes. Lemond was also known for his love of family, boating and golfing.

He is survived by son, Morgan Lemond of Evansville, parents, James and Evelyn (Finke) Lemond, of Evansville, sisters, Kathy Miller (Rusty) of Evansville and Chery Ambrose (Kelly) of Berea, KY, brother, John Lemond (Lori) of Evansville, former wife of 21 years, Sharon Lemond of Evansville, step-son, Jared Roth of Evansville and several nieces and nephews.
