Under Armour Signs Bundesliga Football Star Jonathan Tah

Under Armour announced Jonathan Tah as the latest member of its elite global athlete roster. The 20-year-old is considered to be one of the biggest rising stars in German football.

As an industry leader in sports apparel, footwear and equipment, Under Armour will provide Tah with game-changing footwear, apparel and equipment innovatively created to help athletes perform on and off the pitch.

The powerful German defender will train and compete in the UA ClutchFit Force 2.0 football boot. The new boot offers players extreme comfort, featuring a Trivela microfiber upper with a two-way stretch and symmetrical lacing system that works to form the perfect fit.

“My style of football matches Under Armour’s philosophy of being ‘Aggressive, Young and Fearless.’ I’m proud of this new partnership, and plan to take my game to a new level, as I still have so much more that I want to accomplish in football. I believe Under Armour is the best partner to help me achieve so much more,” explained Tah.

Despite his young age, Tah has already established himself as an important pillar to his team, demonstrating his athletic and competitive style of play that aligns with Under Armour’s brand personality. Born in Hamburg, Tah started his Bundesliga career at his hometown club Hamburger SV in August 2013. After playing at Fortuna Dusseldorf, Tah was transferred in July 2015 to Bayer 04 Leverkusen where he is enjoying a phenomenal first season. In March 2016, the defender from Bayer 04 Leverkusen was selected to the German national squad and celebrated his international debut on March 26th against England. He was also captain of the German U17 and U19 national teams and played three matches for the U21 national team where he made himself a stand out player on the pitch.

“Jonathan Tah is a rising young talent who we feel has a great future ahead of him in both club and international professional football. He is a great fit to our roster of athletes today, with a resolute hunger to perform at his best and determined leadership skills demonstrated on the pitch. We strive to make athletes better through passion, design and the relentless pursuit of innovation. We’ll empower Jonathan with our products so he can perform at the highest level,” said Peter Murray, VP of Global Sports Marketing, Under Armour.

Tah joins Under Armour’s European football talent roster that includes Granit Xhaka (Borussia Mönchengladbach) and Memphis Depay (Manchester United). In July 2016, the global sports brand will become kit partner to FC St. Pauli.
