US Customs Issues Guidance Ahead of Possible West Coast Strike

U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) Cargo Systems Messaging Service has issued guidelines for shippers in the event of a West Coast port strike or work slowdown.  That document can be found here: http://fdra.org/wp-content/uploads/2014/06/Guidance_for_Possible_Strike.pdf

Shippers can also check CBP’s Unified Business Resumption site where shippers can find alerts and up-to-date information and also describes a number of scenarios with guidance for shippers.
International Longshore and Warehouse Union and the Pacific Maritime Assocation are negotiating a new contract to replace one that expires Monday, June 30th at midnight. If they fail to reach an agreement by then, the ILWU could strike or take other work actions that could affect shipments through West Coast ports.
